Structures
I’ve always been interested in buildings and the way they sit within the places around them. I like the fact that something we might walk past every day can suddenly look completely different when you stop and really look at it.
This collection brings together photographs of structures and architecture that have caught my attention, both close to home and while travelling. Some are big, imposing buildings; others are much quieter and easier to overlook. Sometimes it’s the building itself that interests me, and sometimes it’s the way it changes the space around it.
I think that’s what I enjoy most about photographing architecture. It gives me a reason to slow down and explore a place. I’ll often find myself wandering around a building, looking at it from different angles, or noticing something that I probably wouldn’t have seen if I’d simply walked past.
I’m not particularly interested in photographing buildings simply because they are impressive or well designed. I’m more interested in the feeling they give a place, and in the little moments that make me want to take a photograph in the first place.
Hopefully, these photographs do something similar for you. They might remind you of somewhere you’ve been, make you curious about somewhere you haven’t, or simply make you look a little differently at the buildings and spaces you pass every day.
For me, this is an ongoing part of my photography. I’m still discovering what it is about architecture and the built environment that keeps drawing me back, and I suspect I’ll keep finding new reasons to photograph it.
